Bike to Worship Weekend

May 18-20, 2012

Bike to your favorite worship service May 18, 19 or 20

It's our way of marking May as Bike Awareness Month with the Centre Region Bicycle Coalition. And it's a great way to get in touch with the wonders of creation (even rain is a wonder after all), do something emission-free for the earth and care for your body as well.

Spread the word by putting this announcement in your church bulletin or newsletter the weekend before the event. Or pass it along to your network.

Tips for getting there

  • Do you drive a long way to get to worship or need to shorten the ride for little ones? Try driving to a park and riding from there.
  • Can't get there by bike?  Determine how many miles you drive to your place of worship and plan a bike ride of comparable length for another time that weekend.
  • Don't stop there! If you can ride to worship on one weekend you can do it more often. Aim for the biking to worship each weekend in May. With you bike awareness raised you can probably keep it up all summer long!

Then Join us for a Sunday Picnic in the Park on May 20

The Creation Care Coalition, PA-Interfaith Power and Light and Grace Lutheran Church are planning to meet at Sunset Park in State College from 1 pm to 4 pm for a potluck picnic. Bring your own sustainable place settings and a portable dish to pass. (Label any allergens please)

The afternoon will include a Bike Tour/Scavenger Hunt to local churches, leaving from and returning to the picnic at Sunset Park.
