A multi-faith environmental network        The Creation Care Coalition of Centre County PA invites people  of faith to raise awareness about the stewardship of creation in their communities, to reduce regional contributions to climate change, and to raise an ethical voice in local, regional, state, national, and global discussions about climate change and environmental policies.        An affiliate of Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light,  the Creation Care Coalition coordinates educational activities, sponsors speakers working on climate change, and shares ideas and resources about how to organize our faith communities around effective ways to steward creation and address climate change.      To learn more about our group, to get on our mailing list or to get involved, please contact Sylvia Neely at SNeelyPA@gmail.com.

Weatherization First

 

 

Mission Statement:

The Centre County chapter of Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light (PA IPL), a community of congregations, faith-based organizations, and individuals of faith responding to climate change as a moral issue, is launching a new program to encourage energy conservation. The program to be called Weatherization First will seek to encourage faith communities and community volunteers in the region to identify and work with low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities to improve the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety.  The simple steps might include weather stripping and caulking around windows and doors; repairing storm windows; repairing broken windows and doors; cleaning and testing the efficiency of heating and cooling systems; and undertaking small-scale insulation projects.

The goals of this new project are:

-- To encourage faith communities in central Pennsylvania to make a concrete local contribution to PA IPL's mission by helping neighbors with limited income, the elderly, and people with disabilities to save heating and cooling costs by conserving energy

-- To reduce global dependence on fossil fuels while conserving energy at the local level

Action Plan:

-- To identify faith communities, human service agencies, and individuals interested and willing to help launch this initiative, to produce preliminary needs assessments, and to determine eligibility criteria for weatherization projects

Weatherization First projects 

 

Weatherization First volunteers are now working in homes in Centre County to help people prepare for winter weather.  We welcome referrals of low-income families who could use our assistance.  The labor is voluntary, but we need supplies.   Weatherization First is a program of PA Interfaith Power & Light.  Please donate by sending a check to PA IPL (memo Weatherization First), 2100C South Atherton St, State College, PA 16801.  To donate online, go to paipl.org, click on the donate button, and specify that the donation is for Weatherization First.  PA IPL is a 501(c) (3) organization and contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
